Moran Chevrolet
Clinton Twp, MI

TEC was retained by Moran Chevrolet to provide environmental decommissioning and remediation services at their recently purchased dealership in Clinton Township, Michigan. The scope included decommissioning four active hydraulic lifts, removal of oil and water from 14 hoist trenches, pumping liquids from seven oil-water separators (OWS) or catch basins (CB), cleaning/inspecting/
repairing/sealing the OWS’ and CBs, as well as removal of a 4,000 gallon gasoline underground storage tank (UST).

Challenges encountered during the project included working in between active, above-ground hoists while avoiding damage to numerous exhaust lines, sewers, electrical lines, water lines and roof drains located beneath the floor of the service area.

Notable achievements included the development and successful implementation of a demanding schedule for decommissioning and remediation services that were performed within the active service bays at the facility. Fourteen active or inactive hydraulic hoists were decommissioned and removed, 10 of which, also required soil remediation while maintaining a proper service bay area for the facility to maintain adequate capacity.

TEC provided engineering oversight while the UST system was dismantled. The tank was then pumped, decontaminated and removed from the ground. Soil verification samples were collected and analyzed in accordance with Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) guidance from each area.

A UST closure report, based on meeting Generic Residential Cleanup Criteria, was prepared and submitted to the MDEQ.
